Fertility Acupuncture Wokingham
Acupuncture is an alternative therapy that can help with a range of different conditions. It originates from traditional Chinese medicine two thousand years ago.
One of these is fertility and there is research to show that it can have an effect on infertility, particularly in relation to relieving infertility conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
We are passionate about using our holistic approach to help with infertility issues and will use our skills and experience to treat your specific needs.
How acupuncture can help with fertility issues?
Research has been conducted into how traditional acupuncture can help fertility issues. Studies by Gerhard in 1992, and Stener-Victorin in 2000, 2008, 2010 have shown that acupuncture can help improve their fertility issues.
It works to help regulate fertility hormones, and release beta-endorphins into the brain which are thought to affect hormones that can increase fertility.
It can also help by increasing the blood flow to the reproductive organs of the ovaries and uterus, which can help to improve the conditions for getting pregnant.
It also helps in dealing with PCOS, one of the most common causes of infertility and improves sperm quality. Acupuncture can balance hormone levels and reduce sympathetic nerve activity, which reduces ovarian cysts and promotes ovulation.

What to expect
It's advisable to wear loose clothing for your appointment so that it's easy for the acupuncturist to place the needles into your body.
It doesn't hurt. You might feel a little tingle, or a slight ache around the area where the needle is inserted, but this doesn't last.
It will depend on where you are in your menstrual cycle as to where the needles are placed. Generally, for infertility acupuncture, needles are inserted in your legs, ankles and feet, your lower abdomen and sometimes in your ears and hands, and the top of your head. This won't hurt, and it will entirely depend on your treatment requirements.
We'll complete a full consultation beforehand to get to know you and the issues you've faced with fertility, and your acupuncture treatment will be fully personalised to you.
What will happen afterwards?
You can sometimes feel sleepy and relaxed after acupuncture, so it's advisable to go home and rest if you can. You may also feel sleepy afterwards.
